Part of the project covered the field of KBE (Knowledge Based Engineering). In detail, the project developed a methodology to codify product development, in order to automate codification and knowledge acquisition. Furthermore, “rule interchange format” is developed, enabling an application-independent management of rules and algorithms.
Part of the project covered the development of algorithms for the multi objective optimization of life cycle costs and environmental impacts. The tool developed aimed to support designers activities since the early design stages, supporting them in the creation and identification of the optimal lifecycle oriented solution. The developed platform aims at including all involved user grops to improve the production and design process of the products and processes.

Each of the processes was developed using simulations. The simulations were used to develop control and investigate improvements. The additive manufacturing process as well as the micro-forming process was modeled using FEM methods. This to ensure first-time right development.
