Summary
The technologies developed for the batteries re-value chain consist in:
- dismantling technology to isolate the battery cells based on human-robot collaboration, small robots able to separate plastic, wires, electronic controllers and cell batteries.
- testing technology and approaches for the estimation of residual battery life, based on charge/discharge cell behaviour test protocols and software for assessing battery SoH. Accurate assessments of the battery degradation in both the automotive and second use is considered of outmost importance because understanding, as well as predicting, battery ageing evolution is a prerequisite to assess the economic and environmental benefit of post-EV battery second use;
- compounds recovery technology as hydrometallurgy to sustainably recover Li, Co, Mn, Al, etc.
