Cloud-based simulation of metal forming by stamping

Summary
The sheet metal forming industry is widely considered as a sector with great influence in the development of the world economy. A typical simulation task to assist in the design of a metal forming process of a medium-complex part, represents around 50 iterations, each of which need 20 computing hours on a standard workstation. This is approximately 10 weeks of work for a specialized engineer, and requires keeping a workstation occupied for the same amount of time, which is not consistent with an efficient design process. The objective of the experiment was to develop and validate the StamHPC service layer, an affordable and easy to use design tool for the production process of sheet metal forming parts. The main outcome of StamHPC is a new software solution that allows the sheet metal forming industry to solve metal forming simulation problems on the next generation of HPC computers with higher efficiency and ease of use than today’s state-of-the-art commercial codes. The use of Stampack with HPC remote platforms allows the metal-forming industries to have a greater speed and agility to develop offers for. This has a positive impact on the awarded contracts arising from proposals made, which is estimated as an increase of 30%.
