GREEN-LOOP | Sustainable manufacture systems towards novel bio-based materials

Summary

GREEN-LOOP addresses novel bio-based materials solutions, tackling the problem from a circular-business thinking perspective, which will enable overcoming the barrier for new manufacturing tools, energy efficiency improvements and sustainable value chains. The main goal of GREEN-LOOP is to design and optimise 3 innovative bio-based materials and components for industrial sectors: construction, packaging, food, beverage, appliances and tooling.

  1. multifunctional panels rubber panels with fire resistance and vibrational applications,
  2. bioplastic bottle closures for oil and fruit juice,
  3. wood composite bearings for plastic injection machines.

The value chain of each product is optimised from raw material source to End Of Life of products, ensuring the circular economy. All manufacturing lines are retrofitted to adapt to the new enhanced bio compoundings using Artificial Intelligence. Ultrasound improvement is included in lignin production and rubber manufacture, and Microwaves improve preheating of bioplastic on injection moulding and curing of wood composites. The whole process is monitored and presented in a virtual platform that includes KPI evaluation, business optimization in real-time, training (webinars), and social engagement.

C MANUFACTURING
C16 Manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials
C16.2 Manufacture of products of wood, cork, straw and plaiting materials
C16.28 Manufacture of other products of wood and articles of cork, straw and plaiting materials
Result items:

Manufacturing of wood composite bearings for Appliance & Tool Industry. The reinforcement of the matrix by natural wood fibers/particles will be then studied as well as the curing of the biopolymers.

C22 Manufacture of rubber and plastic products
C22.2 Manufacture of plastic products
C22.21 Manufacture of plastic plates, sheets, tubes and profiles
Result items:

The product will be made of recyclable thermoplastics and elastomers. Bio-based raw materials will be lignin and natural rubber.

C22.22 Manufacture of plastic packing goods
Result items:

Bottle closures will use 100% biodegradable materials. Bio-based raw materials will be natural fibers – biodegradable thermoplastic carriers.

C22.26 Manufacture of other plastic products
C32 Other manufacturing
