Mobile worker identification and tracking system

Summary

Close range workers identification using QR Codes. Multiple devices with built in cameras are scanning the work area for QR codes on helmets and on clothes. The information – the QR codes and their positions – are merged with a server application.

The QR code system became popular outside the automotive industry due to its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard barcodes. Applications include product tracking, item identification, time tracking, document management, and marketing. Many PDA-s and handheld devices (smart mobiles) already has built in QR code reading function. Comparing to the other popular 2D code systems called DTM generally the QR codes are more robust when codes are moving during the reading process. Hence QR codes are better when we identify workers. Part of the robustness of QR codes in the physical environment is their ability to sustain “damage” and continue to function even when a part of the QR code image is obscured, defaced or removed.
