Realisation of the joined parts

Realisation of the joined parts
Summary

The aim of this deliverable is to prove feasibility of electromagnetic welding (EMW) for all material combinations selected for investigation within the JOIN’EM project. With regard to sheet metal welding, this concerns the joining of • Copper and aluminium, i.e. specifically o Cu-DHP and EN AW-1050 and o Cu-DHP and EN AW-6082, • Aluminium and stainless steel, i.e. specifically EN AW-1050 and 1.4307, and • Copper and copper i.e. specifically Cu-DHP and Cu-DHP. With regard to tube welding, this concerns the joining of • Copper and aluminium, i.e. specifically Cu-DHP and EN AW-6082, and • Aluminium and low carbon steel i.e. specifically o EN AW-6060 and S355 and o EN AW-3103 and S355, • Copper and stainless steel, i.e. specifically Cu-DHP and 1.4307. Feasibility of electromagnetic welding is regarded as proved if welding can be reproducibly achieved for at least one set of parameters. In order to determine reasonable parameter ranges, numerical simulations and experimental spot tests have been carried out at the three research institutes dealing with investigation of the EMW process itself (i.e. FRAUNHOFER, BWI, and INNOVALTECH). Documentation of the feasibility in this deliverable is validated via photos of successfully welded specimens only. Further information regarding the according process parameters will be included in deliverable D2.5 “Report on technological feasibility of EMW for all suggested material combinations” which is expected to be delivered at the end of month 15 of the JOIN’EM project. Details about the process analysis and the test results are included in deliverables D2.3 “Report on guidelines for joining of tubular components by EMW: Investigation of process parameters and geometrical parameters – part I” and D2.6 “Report on guidelines for joining of tubular components by EMW: Investigation of process parameters and geometrical parameters – part II” for tubular specimens and in D2.4 “Report on guidelines for joining of sheet components by EMW: Investigation of process parameters and geometrical parameters – part I” and D2.7 “Report on guidelines for joining of sheet components by EMW: Investigation of process parameters and geometrical parameters – part II” for EMW or sheet metal specimens.
