Summary
In grinding processes, it is typical to use heavy tools but low process forces. State of the art sensory tool holders either have too low sensitivity or are so mechanically weakened that they do not have the necessary stability. To solve these problems, a sensory tool holder with high sensitivity and high stiffness has been developed, which allows to measure low grinding forces. With the new sensitive tool holder measurements, online process and tool quality control can be established.
The main technological innovations of the new sensorized toolholder and advantages
• Sensorized tool holder with high sensitive measurement capability to measure process forces (bending moments, torque, axial force)
• Fast and accurate data acquisition (5 kHz) signal pre-processing, fast data transfer with time-stamps
• Interfaces to collect synchronous machine-date together with sensor data
• Time-Data basis for synchronized storage of collected sensor, machine, and process data
• Specific KPI algorithms software to detect grinding tool wear (tool condition), scattering, process forces…
• Interface software for HMI and cloud functionality
• Software for generating real process twin in real time to compare with simulated digital twin → in process real time process quality control
