Load Balancing Optimization Tool

Summary

In the current competitive market, where manufacturing companies are moving towards the mass customization and personalization of the products, there is a need for an efficient approach to quickly respond to changes in production. Among many challenges that manufacturer are facing in response to changes in production, balancing the assembly lines with considerable investment costs to achieve the highest level of efficiency and flexibility are perceived as the most difficult and time consuming tasks for many production experts. 

In MANUWORK a Line Balancing Optimization (LBO) method, developed by HIS, has been developed and reported in the scientific literature. To enable the usage of the developed LBO solution approaches within the pilot cases as well as the future manufacturing companies, there is a need for (1) design of a user interface to enable the real-time use of LBO solution approach as a decision support tool and (2) integration of the LBO with simulation so that the results can be visualized and analyzed further. Thus, in this chapter the user interface design and the integration of LBO with simulation will be presented.
