Software Result 1: Active Damping Function for Heavy Duty machines
Summary
The objective of this function is to eliminate chatter vibrations using an active damping strategy using the inertial actuator located in the spindle head. When this function is switched on, vibrations are measured by an accelerometer and an algorithm applies a control technique to calculate the force that the actuator should introduce in the machine. The material removal rate has been doubled using this technique in the first demonstrator. The active damping function has been introduced in a industrial pilot case to reduce chatter problems in the machining of an engine compressor casing. The feedback is really positive.
