Software Result 2: Stability Function for Heavy Duty Machines

Software Result 2: Stability Function for Heavy Duty Machines
Summary
The objective of this function is to measure, avoid and control self-excited vibrations. In the first step, the vibrations during cutting process are measured by means of an accelerometer located in the spindle head. Once the accelerometer signals are stored in the control system, an algorithm processes them and offers solutions to avoid self-excited vibrations. The solutions offered by the system are based on stability lobes diagram and there are two types of possible solutions depending on which unstable conditions works the machine. Whith this function the stability of a face milling operation has been increased four times. The stability function has been introduced in an industrial case to reduce chatter problems in the machining of a windmill hub. The function has been succesfull suppressing chatter.
