Multi-cloud environment for product security information sharing (Automotive Manufacturing UC)

Summary

To guarantee cybersecurity and safety of vehicles, cryptographic keys and certificates need to be injected in Electronic Control Units within the factory and exchanged between providers (OEMs, Suppliers, Tier X). To that aim, a cryptographic-keys injection, distribution and management system for Automotive manufacturing is necessary to enable a broad reach and a distributed access to these keys. The use case will be built on the multi-cloud concept to enhance the management and distribution of cryptographic keys in Automotive manufacturing. Multi-clouds are distributed systems wherein storage, processing and networking capabilities are made accessible and consistent across multiple and distributed cloud infrastructures.

The multi-cloud-based manufacturing platform will allow CONTINENTAL worldwide production sites to have access to a unique, uniform, secure, dependable and scalable infrastructure to send and retrieve cryptographic keys used all along the vehicle lifetime. In addition to key injection, a necessary “back documentation” to a secret source of all crypto information in the produced parts is mandatory and will also be managed using the multiple cloud platform. Without this back documentation the OEM would not be able to access the ECUs or perform, for example, over the air updates of vehicles. The effective deployment of this system at CONTINENTAL is planned for every plant worldwide.
