BOREALIS final demonstration

BOREALIS final demonstration
Summary

Two demonstrators have been assembled: a “large-scale” demonstrator aimed at the manufacturing of large parts, with high throughput, and a “small-scale” demonstrator, focused on med-tech and automotive applications. The large-scale demonstrator has been equipped with a 3 kW CW fibre laser, without the PW option because ablation plays a less effective role for very large parts. The small-scale demonstrator has been equipped with a 1 kW CW fibre laser and a 100 W nanosecond pulsed laser. The Borealis result has been achieved with the Integration and the effective installation of the machine in IRIS. During the demo it was performed the DED process with geometries and parts able to demonstrate the principles of Borealis machine as large scale part realization and the use of preheating and post-heating principle together with the benefits of monitoring vision systems.
