Comment: The laser processes developed in DIPLAT are highly energy efficient compared to conventional diamond processing technologies. Furthermore, they require no consumables such as processing fluids, electrodes, grinding tools, ... The tools produced in DIPLAT facilitate "dry" cutting processes and replace grinding processes. As the supply of cooling lubricants consumes a high percenatge of the energy in these conventional processes, this raises the resource efficieny of all products manufactured by these tools.

Comment: The close ccoperation of RTD-performers, technology holders and end-users in the DIPLAT project leads to a simulateneous development of manufacturing processes, manfacturing devices and products, leading to frequent adaptions of all three elements to benefit the efficiency of the collective solution.

Comment: Environmental impact: improvement sustainability of production processes and tools since Des-MOLD will reduce the need for mock-up tools, and scrap pieces will be decreased thanks to the optimal designs and sensorization at the design level. Furthermore, Scrap reduction strategy has a direct impact on energy consumption reduction (less scraped parts are produced).

Comment: Given the geometry of the part, type of material, mould’s material and defects to be avoid, the system combines a knowledge-based system (KBS) based on past experiences with designers social debates for providing a set of recommendations, enabling to update the knowledge database by reusing and adapting solutions from previous designs.

Comment: In the project frame, different studies are conducted about the re-process of raw materials not possessing the required characteristics, in order to minimize the discarded amount. Efficiency in the production stage is guaranteed by the high level of control in the process and the optimization of resource statuses ("stand-by functionalities of certain components). Innovative solutions in dealing with end-of-life products are subject of research.

Comment: The essence of the project is a continuous feedback among the parties involved in raw material supply, process development and production of final parts to achieve a result which satisfies all the expected requirements. We will generate Objects closer to their nominal shape and thus less material will be removed by subtractive processes, and reduce energy consumption and indirectly CO2 emission

Comment: CAxMan aim at using less material by offering new shape design methods for efficient design of voids and cavities. CAxMan also address the design of better and leaner support structures (use of less material) based analysis addressing thermal stresses and distortions during the additive process.
